Portfolio of Works

  I have had the privilege to travel extensitively in the High Arctic including Greenland. To try & capture the light & the Inuit people has been a wonderful challenge.

  The Irish landscape has a special place in my heart. Much of my painting there wants to remember things as I once knew them to be.

  My " wildlife" paintings belong to a real place & a real experience----be it the wooded area or creek on my property, or the isles of scotland , the wintering place of Barnacle geese , or further yet to the vast plains of East Africa.

In one sense I have never grown up-----as a boy I loved to wander the fields & hedges of rural Ireland in search of bird nests. Those fields have extended into many places in the world.

Among these various painting trips , the one to Nepal was outstanding. I brought home 25 small finished paintings done along the way as we walked for three weeks to Everest's base. Some of these are included in the plein-air collection.

 Here I must pay tribute to Robert Lougheed, one of America's great artists---it was Robert that got me to see the need to get outdoors & paint from life.   My best information lay right before me he would say. I have enjoyed doing this in many areas around the world.
